Preparing for Surgery

In preparation for surgery, you will work with our team members from Mental Health, Nutrition, and our Pharmacist.
Mental Health Evaluation

As part of the pre-surgical evaluation, you will be asked to meet with someone from the mental health team.  This team member will conduct an evaluation to help identify areas of strength, as well as areas that you may need additional help in before having surgery.  The mental health care provider will provide you with feedback and may help you set up goals to work on.  In addition, you may be asked to meet with this provider multiple times.  The mental health care team at each site is able to provide ongoing support as you go through this process if you need or want help as you make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes to prepare for surgery.  Following surgery, you will meet with someone from the mental health team at regular intervals to ensure that you have the support you need as you adjust to significant lifestyle changes.

You will be seen by your local MOVE Bariatric team’s dietician, who will discuss your current eating habits as well as provide teaching and paperwork regarding current changes you can make to your diet.  A large focus will also be placed on your diet following your surgery.  The biggest changes that you must make to your diet after surgery are to greatly increase your intake of fluids and protein.
