VA Boston Healthcare System
The 16th annual New England Winter Sports Clinic for Disabled Veterans was a smashing success. Veterans of all abilities, volunteers, and VA staff gathered at Mt. Sunapee, NH, from January 14-17th.
New participants got their first taste of freedom on the slopes, while returning Veterans honed their skills learned in years past. The value of this experience is immeasurable. In a team environment Veterans and family members learn to participate in winter sport activities regardless of their disability.
Some Veterans learn to use adaptive equipment to hit the slopes as independent skiers, while others learn to work with a ski partner, family member, or friend to accomplish what once seemed impossible. The skills we teach help Veterans live stronger, healthier, and happier lives through participation in socially fulfilling and physically challenging leisure activities.
In addition to our annual Winter Sports Clinic VA Boston Healthcare System offers a wide variety of adaptive sports to area Veterans. Our program includes sled hockey; cross country skiing; cycling; golf; kayaking; wheelchair basketball, softball, and tennis; surfing; sailing and more.
Participating in the Adaptive Sports Program is not only a form of rehabilitation, but it is also a doorway to a new active lifestyle where anyone and everyone can participate.
