Activities during the Veterans' Expo 2013 make healthcare a family affair

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

Through the effort and determination of volunteer VA Boston Healthcare employees, we were successful in bringing healthcare, jobs, benefits and services to as many as 315 Veterans while 250 family members gained valuable knowledge as well.  Twenty-five of those Veterans enrolled for VA healthcare on the spot and seven received their first physical screening on site.

Veterans of all eras and their families were invited to gain information on healthcare, benefits, housing, financial planning and more. While visiting the information booths, they were also entertained by live music, activities for the kids and a family cookout.

While numbers give us an idea as to how effective our strategic efforts might be, they don’t begin to tell the story of the changed lives, strengthened resilience and healing that results from meeting with more than 80 employers, care givers and support agencies that were on site with us that day.

As always, it's the community partners and the volunteers of VA Boston that prove compassion and commitment count!
