VA Boston Healthcare System

Veterans and Families Consumer Council (VFCC)

The mission of the Veterans and Families Consumer Council is:

 - To give Veterans a voice within the VA Boston Healthcare System. Veterans and their families can attend bi-monthly meetings to provide feedback about their treatment within Mental Health Services as well as concerns related to care at VA Boston Healthcare system.

 - To be a leader in building coalitions and forming partnerships with other Veteran organizations and inform administrative, professional, and academic bodies within VA Boston Healthcare System.

 - To articulate the rationale for our policies and decisions regarding mental health services; to proactively and positively participate in planning, running, and evaluating outcomes of the Mental Health Service.

 - To be a resource for administrators, clinicians, nursing staff, faculty, residents, and researchers to help them better understand how services affect Veterans and educate them about the unique qualities and strengths of the Veterans they seek to serve.

The mission is completed by holding bi-monthly meetings where all Veterans and family members are invited to provide feedback about mental health services that they receive. This feedback is presented to the Mental Health Administration to improve services and accessibility of care.

Recent projects have included:

 - The expansion of the Vet-to-Vet Program to cover a wide range of topics and services being offered at different campuses (see link for the most up to date Vet-to-Vet services available)
 - Improving travel services
 - Decreasing gaps in mental health care
 - Increasing accessibility of mental health care
