Geriatric Mental Health

The Geriatric Mental Health Clinic provides therapy for emotional and behavioral problems in older adults (65+) who have mental health conditions associated with aging. In addition, the clinic offers expert knowledge of the effect of drugs that may be used to treat these conditions.

Our focus is primarily on the treatment of:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • grief and mourning, and
  • adjustment issues related to aging.

We provide appropriate therapy in individual, family, and group settings. In addition, the Geriatric Mental Health Clinics work collaboratively with experts from Neurology and Geriatrics to provide ongoing care for individuals with dementia and their families.

We also offer support groups for veterans with:

  • memory loss
  • sleep problems
  • medical conditions associated with aging, and
  • normal changes in memory.

Importantly, we also offer a separate group for caregivers.

We are located at the Brockton Campus and, to a limited extent, the Jamaica Plain campus.

Veterans who need a diagnostic evaluation for dementia may be referred to the Neurology Service or to the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC).
